Children have a deep need to be connected to the natural environment. When playing freely outdoors they most often form into little 'family' groups and engage in den making/hiding and 'food' gathering/preparation activities in the forest. They show a deep curiosity and fascination with the beautiful colours of the changing leaves and the many flowers and insects in the garden.
Here we are looking for ladybirds!

The children are fascinated by the apples growing and ripening on their little tree.

The children often eat their lunch in the garden in summer. On this occasion they brought lunch into their den in the woods!

This little girl has spontaneously created her own model of the garden.

We are observing our bird house.
